Type A speed bumps: can be installed where there is a need to limit the speed to 30km/h, on highways (only when crossing an urbanized stretch), urban collector roads, and local urban roads.

Type B speed bumps: can only be installed on local urban roads where regular public transport lines do not circulate, and it is impossible to implement Type A transverse undulation, occasionally reducing the maximum speed to 20 km/h.

But if it crossed your mind that speed bumps are installed and left unmonitored, know that this is an erroneous thought. Article 4 of Resolution 600/2016 guarantees that “after one year (365 days) from the implementation of the transverse undulation, the authority with jurisdiction over the road must evaluate its performance through a traffic engineering study”. If ineffectiveness is proven, another effective solution for traffic flow must be implemented by Organs responsible bodies.

Every speed bump like speed bumps Charlotte for example installed on a public road needs effective communication with vehicle drivers and pedestrians. According to article 6 of the Resolution, for this reason, and to avoid any disorder in the flow of traffic, the placement of transversal undulations on the road is only allowed if accompanied by proper road signs, consisting of at least: sign with R-19 sign and A-18 warning sign plate.

Know The Traffic Signs:

Sign with R-19 sign – designates the maximum permitted speed, regulating the speed at 20km/h when using Type, A undulation and at 20km/h when using Type B transverse undulation, always preceding the device.

Sign warning sign A-18 – represents “overhang or hump” before the transverse undulation and is placed according to the criteria established by the Brazilian Traffic Signaling Manual.

Sign with warning sign A-18 – also represents “protrusion or bump,” with a position arrow placed next to the bump, according to the criteria established by the Brazilian Traffic Signaling Manual.
