Research Shows The Benefit Of Exercise Is The Key Ingredient to A Long Healthy Life

We have all been told and heard it before.  That exercise is crucial to our health.  The amazing thing is, is that the serious scientific research into exercise really only began about 60 years ago.  One benefit of exercise is that it alone will reduce your overall risk of getting many diseases.  It also increases one’s longevity and quality of life (now who does not want that benefit of exercise?).  As you can see, there is not simply one benefit to exercise there are multiple benefits.

One benefit of exercise is that it helps reduces the speed at which the body ages by free radical elimination.

Exercise also helps reduce mental decline and steers you away from more than two dozen physical and mental conditions.  A recent study conducted by Leslie Alford in the International Journal of  Clinical Practice showcases not just one benefit of exercise, but many. He also notes that living a long healthy life has many variables, including luck.  But the weight of evidence for the benefit of exercise is strong.  He is quoted by saying “being physically active is the most powerful lifestyle choice any individual can make to improve their health.”  In other words, the benefit of exercise will with out a doubt improve your health and quality of life.

Here is another huge benefit of exercise

Regular exercise greatly reduce your risk of coronary heart disease and stroke.  It has also been proven that regular exercise helps reduce the risk of certain cancers, depression, type 2 diabetes, obesity, and more.  Research also shows that walking or cycling for an hour a day reduces the risk of cancer by 16%.

It is obvious, the benefit of exercise is far reaching for everyone.  Some healthcare professionals state that if they can put exercise into a pill, it would have a profound impact on disease control.  I know this seems a bit redundant for most people but for some reason many people just tuck exercise under the rug and do nothing only to lose out on the benefit of exercise.  It is hard to understand as to why people fully knowing how beneficial and far reaching exercise is in their health they choose the latter and forget it even exists.

As the research continues to be done it is very easy to assume that the benefit of exercise will keep producing substantial health benefits.  Further research shows that when you exercise your body activates certain disease fighting genes that stay dormant if you do not exercise.  Talk about a benefit of exercise!

In order to get the full benefit of exercise, you need to hit the threshold for minutes per week.  The study indicates that people between the age of 18 and 65 should workout at least 150 minutes of moderate intensity exercises per week.  You should also do at least three strength training workouts per week to build lean muscle.   Exercise to your abilities, don’t push yourself into injury.

Finally, I will leave you with a quote form Leslie Alford that sums this post up on the benefit on exercise;

“Physical inactivity results in widespread pathophysiological changes to our bodies.  It appears that our bodies have evolved to function optimally on a certain level of physical activity that many of us simply do not achieve in our modern, sedentary lifestyles.”

The benefit of exercise is up to you.  Working out daily, just showing up and moving your body will shift you towards being healthy.  Not exercising, will only void the benefit of exercise for you.
